The new Kawaski ZX 10R is capable of speeds of 190mphs with about 200 horsepower at the wheels. For some this is capability is not enough speed but for most it is more than enough to handle. Recently there was a recall on all the bolts for holding the steering damper brackets which is important for the control of the motorcycle.
It is estimated that over 800 have been sold just in the US alone with this problem and all owners will receive a letter concerning this problem.
Kawasaki has agreed to fix the problem free of charge and would advise anyone who owns this motorcycle to come into their shops ASAP.

Getting the Right Size
This is just a important as getting the right size pants and shoes. Your helmet is good for nothing if it looks good but wobbles a lot on your head. Even a cheap helmet that fits is better than one that doesn’t. If you go to a motorcycle shop to purchase a helmet they might end up asking you what type of head you have. Look below for a good diagram to determine your type of head.

Getting the Right Configuration
There are many types of helmets to purchase and many of them are for different types of riding styles. For example, if you have a motorcycle that you plan to take off road and get muddy and dirty then a helmet with goggles would be more your style and fitting while a cruiser motorcycle would have sometimes an open faced helmet with good insulation to keep out wind noise. It all depends on the type of riding that you will be doing. Talk to a motorcycle shop and explain the types of riding you’ll be doing. We always recommend a full face helmet over an open face as they are safer when it comes to highway riding and bugs are not going to be hitting you.
Just because every helmet looks similar to other helmets does not mean that it has a good safety rating. Helmets with a DOT approved sticker on the helmet does not mean that it is a good or great helmet, it just means that it has passed the standard for motorcycle helmets in the United States. SNELL and SHARP are also safety rated stickers for helmets but they don’t just pass the standards for helmets, they are put to the test and exceed them. They are on a pass/ fail tests to make sure the helmets are safe and adequate for the type of riding anyone will do.

It’s always said that “It’s not the matter of ‘if’ you go down but ‘when’ you go down while riding a motorcycle.” Below we will talk about some of the most common ways motorcyclists end up in motorcycle accidents and some tips on how to avoid them yourself.
While it is possible to survive a head on collision on a motorcycle you most likely won’t. Most causes of a head on collision on a motorcycle is from passing others, especially on a two-lane highway. Many motorcyclists will get impatient and decide to shoot gaps and get to their destinations as soon as possible only to find out they didn’t obey the laws of the road and end up in a fatal accident. Best possible way to avoid head on collisions is to obey the law an pass where appropriate, maintain a safe speed, visually see what’s in front of you and keep in control of your motorcycle.
Drinking Alcohol plays a huge factor in motorcycle accidents. Majority of motorcycle accidents that have occurred are caused by drunk riders and drivers. Never drink and ride! Drinking makes you impaired and unable to control a motor vehicle, being a motorcycle or a car. Don’t ride in the late hours of the night when people are more inclined to drink and drive. This is just common sense.
Left-hand turns do not mean that the motorcyclist is making a left-hand turn but a vehicle at an intersection is turning left, going through lanes of traffic. This is a very common cause of motorcycle crashes and accidents. Although it is the responsibility of the driver making the left hand turn to make the turn safely it is possible to avoid being hit. Always look many seconds ahead and check for signs of a car making a left-hand turn. Check to see if the driver sees you, slow down until you know the driver sees you. Try riding closer to traffic where the driver can see the traffic coming. Ride with your headlights on always, even with high beams on to increase visibility.
Drivers are not all programmed to see motorcyclists whizzing by them. A lot of drivers do not like motorcyclists flying by them especially at high rates of speed. A motorcyclist typically changes lanes a lot more than cars and trucks and have a higher percentage of not being seen. Some of the best ways to prevent accidents while lane-splitting is to split only at slower speeds, watch for blinkers from others, always be ready to stop, avoid riding on the painted lines, especially when wet, be aware of motorcyclists coming from behind and in front.
Gravel or objects in the Road
Loose material is a major factor of why motorcyclists slide out and go down. Gravel on roads and debris from other vehicles and accidents are a cause of why motorcyclists lay their motorcycles down but it can be prevented. Most of the time it is not the debris and gravel that cause the accident but the speed of the motorcyclist. Speed increases the chances of sliding out especially when debris and gravel are present. Do not ride into corners blindly or at high rates of speed. Make sure you can visibly see what is on the road ahead.
Your chances of having a motorcycle accident are a significantly higher if you are a first year rider. Whether you ride on the roads or off the road, your capabilities will increase with experience. You must understand what your capable of riding. For a beginner we would never recommend a sport bike but to go with a bike that has a simple engine size ranging from 250cc to 400cc and to also ride only in suburbs where less cars are present. Once your ability to ride develops and ready to move up classes we would recommend an engine size between 400cc-600cc and then moving up to any size that is comfortable once you mastered the previous motorcycle sizes. We also do not recommend purchasing a brand new motorcycle for a beginner motorcyclist. As a rule of thumb, don’t expect your first motorcycle to last forever.
You come to an abrupt stop and then bam, the car behind you sends you flying into the car in front of you. It happens more than you think. Drivers become distracted easily, whether it be kids, the radio or a cell phone, you need to always see what is going on behind you. Every time you come to a stop always check your rear view mirrors. Be aware of your surroundings, keep your bike in gear, just in case you need to get out of the way. Do not stop directly behind a car but off to the sides.
When it rains the worst time to be out riding is in the first hour after it starts raining. Loads of oil from the roads come up from the cracks and make it slippery to ride. Not only that but the paint and man-hole covers become slippery to ride as well. Be sure to have appropriate tires with good tread on them to avoid skidding and sliding on the surfaces. Also dont ride through a storm or heavy rain fall. Visibility is sure to be a problem as well as hydroplaning through puddles. Go slow and ride smart.
Group Rides can be an enjoyable time being out with your friends and buddies for a cause or just for the heck of it. Riding in groups can be just as dangerous if not done properly. Know group riding etiquette and ride safe for yourself and the others you are riding with. We recommend that you ride in small groups or even alone to prevent any accidents from happening. Know the people that are in the group and ride at a good distance away from each person and don’t ride with idiot friends, you know, the ones showing off and being the cause of the accidents in the first place. Be smart and ride safely.
Opened Car Door
You are riding down the road and notice a big area you could ride through to get around the traffic, it’s just between active moving cars and many parked cars. Then Gary opens his door to get out and bam, you are on the ground. We have all seen in happen in the movies, the Italian Job, the Bourne Movies, James Bond. Don’t think about doing it yourself, those movies are all planned but in reality you can do yourself a favor and just don’t do it. Not just doors but cars are trying to get out of their parking spot, people are putting things away in their cars, pedestrians are poking their heads out trying to get to the other side. Leave that lane open and be safe.

Technology is being enhanced everyday and lucky for us many advances allow us to be safer and more aware than ever. We will take a look at a few modern technologies that are designed for motorcycle safety beginning with some airbags.
‘Airbags for motorcycles’? You read that right. Some newer Honda Goldwings are equipped with a head on airbag for head on collisions but what about the other thousands or millions of riders not riding the Goldwings? In the last decade or so a few manufactures have created a jacket that inflates as to be an airbag. The airbag jackets are convenient and somewhat stylish, comparatively inexpensive, and quite amazing at saving your life.

It is quite amazing to know that may save a life and hopefully multiple lives from the hard impacts that motorcyclists have to deal with when caught in a crash.
Another airbag technology that is coming out are helmet airbags. The helmet airbags for now are mainly for bicyclists but are still being developed for motorcyclists. This would help visibility to the motorcyclists as they are often focused in a tunnel vision and have a hard time with their peripherals or even windscreen glares. I still don’t know if I would trust to without a hard helmet but it would be nice to have both available as double safety would be nice.

Other technology with motorcycle safety has a lot to do with lighting on the bike and the person. A lot of times motorcyclists can slow down quicker making it difficult for motorists to avoid them and sometimes motorists don’t realize they are slowing down at all. Some new technology with lights displayed on the back of a helmet may help people behind that they are braking. There are other lights such as LED lights that flash when braking can help drivers know they are slowing down. What about for the front of the motorcycle? Some motorcycles have LEDS in the front of the motorcycle and others even have lights that turn when the motorcycle leans to and from directions, they can follow the position of the motorcycle just as some lights follow the directions they are steering.

Monday March 21st 2016 a motorcycle accident was reported and confirmed on the I-15 traveling Northbound at around 9pm. Rider George Gabriel Gonzalez of Lake Elsinore was riding at high speeds when he rear ended a car.
Gonzalez was taken to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where an hour after the crash he died. Police suspect that he was riding with another rider when he crashed.

Lately there has been a lot of hype about these new mini street legal motorcycles starting out with the Honda Grom. When it first appeared the Grom made big highlights being the smallest legal motorcycle to drive on the highways enabling beginner riders to experience life on a motorcycle.
Soon there will be Kawasaki’s version of the Honda Grom roaming around the streets here in the United States. Kawasaki’s version of the bike will be called the Z125 and will also come with a 125cc motor like the Honda Grom itself. All though these are new in the United States they have been appearing in other countries such as Thailand and Japan which have had great success.
These little tike bikes are easy to handle, have enough power to get you going and they are even considered to have two seats. They are quite affordable at around a $3000 price tag and are great fun to getting around town. There are so many benefits to the two motorcycles because of their size, you can virtually park anywhere, get around efficiently running on pennies for gas, and are sporty enough to put a smile on anyone’s face that rides or sees them.

Another question can be asked about whether Suzuki, Yamaha, or KTM or any other motorcycle company will create a mini legal motorcycle. Be sure to check your local motorcycle shop for more information.
Here in the United States there have not been much said about Motorcycle Taxis as they are considered dangerous and would require everyone to wear motorcycle approved helmets. But in other countries Motorcycle Taxis are the best and easiest way to navigate around and through big congested cities.
Countries such as Brazil, India, Japan, and many more that I could probably not pronounce, use motorcycles as taxis since they are cheap, quick, and fun. Getting to and from work would nearly cost you less than a dollar or two and you wouldn’t need to worry about parking or getting stuck in traffic before or after work.
World Moto is the company that is taking over the motorcycle taxi service with their technology similar to Uber but made for safety as motorcyclists don’t have two hands free as they drive customers around. Moto-Meter is their technology that is making their taxi service reliable for the driver and their customers. It allows the customer see the route the driver took and the right price for the travel costs to confirm the amount to be paid to the driver.

Although the United States does not have an official motorcycle/motorscooter taxi service a small business in New York has attempted to build a Vespa Taxi service in New York that is supposed to be twice as cheap as getting a regular taxi in the Big Apple. This company is called ‘Motoconcho’, appropriately named after what the service is called in the Dominican-Republic. We will see how this fairs with people here in the United States.

This past Sunday, March 13, 2016, a motorcyclist went down after skidding 40 feet trying regain control of his motorcycle to make a U-turn to get onto Pacific Coast Highway was then was ran over by a white Dodge sprinter van that was following right behind him. The Sprinter van fled the seen before emergency help arrived. The van had a black trim and is still trying to be identified.
The Motorcyclist, identified as Joseph Salazar from Mira Loma, was riding a 2016 Harley Davidson when he lost control. His injuries were severe and was rushed to Mission Hospital where he died only 3 hours after the accident occurred.
No other information has been released but these detail. We ask that if you have any information about the White Dodge Sprinter van that you call the Dana Point Police and report that information.
We are always saddened when we hear of there horrific stories and tragic deaths in motorcycles, especially with hit and runs. We pray and hope that these people will turn themselves in and be responsible for their actions. February 21, 2016 was a day of excitement for most girls that ride motorcycles that is until the All Girls Ride event was cut short due to a huge accident on the freeway causing a few of the 20+ riders to go down.
The day started out with the ride from Anaheim with a big pack of women riders. 10-15 minutes into the ride the riders got on the 91 freeway heading to Long Beach when the accident occurred.
The cause of the accident was a white sedan traveling on the 91 freeway that had rear-ended a silver sedan causing it to veer into traffic and into the pack of girl motorcyclists traveling in the carpool lane. Luckily no one was killed and there were only a few of the riders were injured with broken bones.
A few of the women riders were wearing GoPros on the ride and we can watch the video below of what happened. All of it happened so sudden and unexpected.

When riding your motorcycle it’s safe to say that your motorcycle is not the safest thing on the road.
